No matter which country I am in, everyone speaks the language of music, movement, and passion."

About Lopa

Lopa Sarkar has been commissioned globally for her unique style of choreography and performance. With over 30 years of experience in world dance forms she is a sought after choreographer and performer.

Lopa is a trail blazer who has brought Bollywood dance and Indian fusion dance to new heights. Bringing her unique style to clients throughout the world, Lopa travels internationally choreographing, teaching and performing. Lopa is an artist who has broken ground being the first person to break the boundaries of where Indian dance has been presented in Canada. Being an artistic consultant on projects that want to be true to the changing face of Indian culture, Lopa provides clients with spectacular stage shows of vibrant music, explosive choreography, and colourful costumes. With over 30 years of dance training, including 20 years of classical Indian dance, Lopa draws on her knowledge of classical, folk, modern and world dance styles to create performances that speak to audiences of all backgrounds. Lopa is also an education specialist in dance and the arts having written curriculums and taught as Faculty in both college and university programs globally. She built the Education & Outreach Department for Canada's largest theatre, helped build Centennial College's Dance Performance Diploma and taught in the program, was Head of Enterprise & Innovation for the world famous UK conservatoire, The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and coaches for the Dancer Transition Resource Centre.

About Alan (he/him)

Alan has been a movement specialist in the fitness/wellness industry for over 20 years. He has been a member of Lopa's professional Bollywood dance company since 2013 having performed and taught across conferences, festivals, events and schools in Ontario. His training specializes in Bollywood, Bhangra fusion and Hip Hop inspired dance forms.

​

Alan has a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education from Toronto Metropolitan University, a Master's in Child Study and Education from OISE and a Diploma in Early Childhood Education from Sheridan College. He has been a lecturer and course designer for both Toronto Metropolitan University's Early Childhood Studies Program and Sheridan College's Theatre and Drama Studies joint program with University of Toronto (Mississauga) UTM. As a former canfitpro PRO trainer, he taught and certified group fitness instructors. His commitment to empowering youth through dance has led him to his work as Community Animator for Culture Shock Canada. Alan is also the Outreach Coordinator for Dance Ontario. He speaks about using art to create spaces for discussions on Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity and Justice (EDIJ).
